Members of Howard Payne University’s faculty and staff were recently honored at an annual personnel recognition luncheon held on the HPU campus. Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld, director of theatre and professor of theatre, was named Outstanding Faculty Member and Debbie Childs, facilities coordinator, received the Outstanding Staff Member Award.

The outstanding faculty and staff member awards are made possible by the Dr. Leonard and Mary Jo Underwood family of Underwood’s Bar-B-Q and the Porter family of Porter Insurance, respectively.

Medallions recognizing excellence in teaching were presented to Dr. Gary Gramling, director of the youth ministry graduate program and professor of Christian studies; Wendy Grooms, associate professor of mathematics; Carla Hawkins, assistant professor of modern languages; Lynn Humeniuk, director of the criminal justice program and associate professor of sociology; and Mandy Locker, assistant professor of criminal justice.

Medallions recognizing excellence in service were presented to Marcie Drew, controller, and Martha Fothergill, coordinator of records and reports for the registrar’s office.

Special plaques were given to Betty Broome, executive assistant to the president, and Randy Weehunt, director of administrative computing, who are both retiring this month.

Also receiving awards were:

Five years of service — Lance Beaumont, assistant professor of music; Jason Cook, custodian; Justin Crossland, adjunct faculty in exercise and sport science; Tammy Dake, custodian; Troy Drummond, head men’s basketball coach; Nick Ewen, assistant professor of theatre; Dr. Bill Fowler, assistant professor of Christian studies; Brent Groom, carpenter; Danny Ingram, adjunct faculty in music; Shannon Johnson, academic success coordinator; Yvonne Lundy, executive assistant to the senior vice president for advancement; José Mata, women’s softball coach; Robert Nelson, security officer; Cindy Proud, adjunct faculty in developmental studies; Dr. W. Mark Tew, provost; and Shelby Webb, groundskeeper.

Ten years of service – Chuck Gartman, adjunct in Christian studies; and Priscilla Monson, adjunct in business.

Fifteen years of service – Curly Cox, associate professor of exercise and sport science; Marcie Drew, controller; Millard Kimery, associate professor of English; and Terrie Wells, administrative assistant for the School of Humanities.

Twenty years of service – Bill Fishback, assistant vice president for business and human resources; Mary Hill, administrative assistant for the School of Business; Wade Kinnin, public services librarian and assistant professor; and Dr. Les Plagens, dean of the School of Business and professor of business administration.

Twenty-five years of service – Dr. Glenn Hopp, professor of English, and Sharon Riker, senior women’s athletics administrator.

Thirty years of service – Chuck Boland, professor of accounting, and Ann Smith, professor of art.

Forty years of service – Bobbie Price, administrative assistant to the registrar.
