AUSTIN, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team dropped a four game series to Concordia University Texas this weekend.
The regularly schedule double header on Friday was pushed back to Saturday due to rain. In the Saturday DH, Howard Payne played some of their best defensive games of the season but fall 1-0 and 2-1 to Concordia.
Concordia scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third on a RBI single up the middle. HPU’s Haleigh Caraway picked up the loss in game one and Kimble Luna and Ashley Silva each recorded hits for HPU in the 1-0 loss. Staton got the win for Concordia.
Game two was also a close one with Concordia winning in the bottom of the seventh on a two out RBI single to left field. Both teams scored one run in the fourth and the game remained tied at 1-1 till the seventh.
Shelby Wahrmund recorded the loss for HPU and Yates got the win for Concordia. Ashley Silva and Evangelina Tellez each got 2 hits for the Lady Jackets.
In Sunday’s doubles header, Concordia took both 4-0 and 6-4. In game one Ashley Silva and Rebecca McDaniel each had 2 hits. Caraway got the loss for HPU and Moreno was tabbed with the win for Concordia.
In game two, the Lady Jackets took a 3-0 lead in the fourth to only have Concordia score 5 in the bottom of the inning. Concordia went on to win 6-3 with Staton getting the win. Wahrund and Kayla Castillo each saw time pitching for HPU in the loss.
Howard Payne stands at 9-22 overall and 6-16 in ASC play. Concordia is 22-12 overall and 16-4 in ASC action. Howard Payne will play again on Wednesday at home in a double header against Schreiner University.
