Howard Payne University’s Department of Art, proudly presents Guest Artist Lecturer, Larry Thompson.
Professor Thompson, Chair of the Art Department at Samford University, will be giving a slide lecture of his art on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 12:30pm, in the Art Gallery of the Doakie Day Art Center. Admission is FREE.
Larry Thompson, Associate Professor of Art, has served as Chair of the Art Department since he first came to Samford in 2007. A native of El Paso, Texas, Thompson has taught in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas prior to moving to Birmingham. In addition to teaching and chairing the department, Thompson is an artist who has recently exhibited work in China, New York, Texas, California, Alabama, Illinois, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
He is an active member of the College Art Association (www.collegeart.org), and has served as Career Mentor for CAA in 2010 at the annual conference in Chicago, and will be doing the same at the 2011 conference in New York, in addition to serving on the panel for the Open Studio Session entitled “Studio Art in CAA’s Next Fifty Years.” Thompson holds an MFA in Painting from The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, and a BFA in Art and Design from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
