The Howard Payne women’s and men’s cross country teams had their first ever appearance at the Texas Division III Championships. Three men and one woman finish in the top fifty.
Carissa Zarate finished with a time of 27:37 for 36th overall. The other women are a follows – 59th Justine Ferrell-Raborn 29:44, 68th Jessica Morales 30:27, 80th Abby Hinojos 33:54, and 83rd Tylene Middleton 34:40.
The men had John Villagomez finish 38th with a time of 32:23. Benton Warren 32:27 (40th) and Malcolm Wentworth 32:44 (42nd) also finished in the top fifty. Sean Locker was 71st 36:49 and Geremy Garza finished 72nd 37:16.
“This was a great meet for our men and women to go out and run against only DIII opponents, and gauge where we are at in our conference,” said HPU head cross country coach David Foster. “We performed great this weekend and really pushed ourselves. We now have an idea of where our opponents are at in their times, and know what we have to strive for in cutting down our times in the upcoming weeks leading into Conference.”
Howard Payne will run next at the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio on October 2nd.
