Motivational speaker Jenny Broughton, a 1974 graduate of Howard Payne University, will be the featured speaker during the university’s Chapel service on Wednesday, February 16. The public is invited to the service, which will be held at 10 a.m. in Mims Auditorium.
A gifted storyteller, Broughton has overcome many life challenges. Orphaned at the age of 11 by a tragic case of domestic violence, she grew to adulthood in a Texas children’s home under the influence of caring counselors and teachers. Her unique account offers insight into the hearts and minds of abused and neglected children and how to best meet their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
According to Christian speaker and author Beth Moore, “Jenny’s life story and subsequent ministries are undeniable works of God’s huge encouragements to the Body of Christ. She is a genuine servant of the Living God and I’m honored to be her sister in Christ.”
Broughton was the recipient of HPU’s Medal of Service in 1998. A teacher by profession, she and her husband, Sam, live in Oklahoma City. The couple has three children and four grandchildren.
