Howard Payne University alumna Bridget (Wells) Jones ’08 was recently honored as the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented 2011 Region 12 Rising Star Teacher. Jones is a sixth grade English/Language Arts teacher at Lake Belton Middle School, where she also serves as a cheer coach.

JJ Colburn, executive director for TAGT, said Jones received the award because she demonstrated outstanding promise in: working toward gifted certification and being engaged in advanced professional development; using instructional strategies appropriate for gifted students; addressing the affective needs of gifted students; and affiliating with professional gifted organizations.

“Bridget is more than deserving of the TAGT Rising Star Teacher Award as she not only challenges her gifted students but all students,” said Suzy McKinney, principal. “She creatively plans how she can involve each student to move past the norm. Her enthusiasm and energy for teaching and students are very contagious. LBMS is fortunate to have her spirit and eagerness to work with our youth.”

Dr. Michael Rosato, dean of HPU’s School of Education, says the HPU faculty are extremely proud of Jones’ accomplishments.

“Bridget truly represents what we are all about in the School of Education at HPU,” he said. “Our goal is to provide public schools with the best prepared Christian educators. Bridget is simply one of the finest young professional educators today and this award is a testimony to her commitment to excellence.”

Jones has been with Belton I.S.D. since 2008.
