The Howard Payne Lady Jacket volleyball team went 1-2 at the second American Southwest Conference crossover tournament hosted by Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University.
Howard Payne lost their match on Friday 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21) to Mississippi College. Tamika Heline led HPU with a match high 17 kills followed by Amber Cantu-Curry with 14 kills, Cantu-Curry also has 16 assists. Amy Cardwell has 26 assists and Kristin Hammond has 25 digs.
In their first match on Saturday, HPU came back from a two-game deficit to win 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 20-25, 15-9) over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Amanda Gutierrez had 20 kills followed closely by Sydney Bryant with 19 kills (a .359 Attack Pct). Heline added 11 kills. Cantu-Curry led with 22 assists.
HPU ended the tournament with a 3-1 loss (25-19, 20-25, 19-25, 17-25) to East Texas Baptist. Guterriez led with a match high 18 kills and Heline added 11 kills. Jessica Guerra and Amy Cardwell each had 17 assists.
Howard Payne now stands at 8-14 overall and 6-8 in ASC play. They will be back in action at home on Tuesday against Hardin-Simmons at 7:00 pm.
