Brownwood News – On July 26th around 7:20 p.m. a Brownwood Police Officer was dispatched to a residence in the Stonegate area for theft. Upon arriving, the officer spoke with the complainant who stated a firearm and money was stolen from his residence while he was away.
According to the report, the complainant stated he and his family went out of town and allowed a young man to stay at his house while they were away. The complainant explained when he and his family returned home, the young man was gone and they noticed that items in the house had been moved.
The man then began looking around his house to see what, if anything, was missing. After inspecting his house, they realized the young man had likely hosted a party in their home while the family was away. Further inspection by the family revealed $2,000 in cash that had been stored in a drawer had been stolen. The man also told the officer that someone had used his vehicle without his permission, explaining it was parked in the wrong parking spot. The man confirmed with the officer that he had not given permission to the house sitter to use the vehicle while the family was away.
As the officer was in the process of finishing his report, he noticed the suspect approaching the residence. The young man asked the officer if he was in trouble. The officer then directed the individual to speak with the home owner, and followed the young man to the residence.
The complainant then asked the young man what occurred while he and his family were gone. The young man then admitted he invited a few friends over for a “small get-together.” The young man told the complainant he did not know who would have taken the cash from the drawer, but did admit to taking the vehicle and driving it around. The officer then asked the young man to provide a list of the individuals he invited to the home. The incident is currently under investigation.
