Tuesday Update: Fire Marshal Buddy Preston determined that the fire was caused by an electric heater. The dog which had suffered smoke inhalation was reported to have died overnight despite efforts by firefighters and a local veterinarian’s care, according to Preston.
Original Story: The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1100 block of Avenue W Monday night.
The fire began around 9:35 p.m. and the small rock home was fully engulfed on three sides when firefighters arrived on scene.
All occupants of the home were reported to have escaped the fire; however, one occupant was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for possible smoke inhalation. A small dog was also reported injured during the fire.
Early Volunteer Fire Department responded to assist with the fire, providing a truck and additional manpower.
No other information was available from the scene on Monday night. Fire Marshal Buddy Preston was on scene investigating.
