Brownwood Police arrested a local hotel manager after he allegedly made unwelcome advances and then attacked a coworker according to police officials.
Karan Kalpeshbhai Desai is a 24-year-old manager of the LaQuinta Inn of Brownwood and was arrested for attempted sexual assault and unlawful restraint.
According to Brownwood Police reports, his coworker told police that shortly after the cleaning crews left for the day on Sunday, Desai asked her to come to the back office so that he could talk with her. The victim said that he made unwelcome advances and crude statements the day before so she felt uncomfortable and only went to the hallway to speak with Desai according to reports. The reports also state that Desai grabbed her as she stepped into the hallway.
Police said that the woman tried to get away as Desai allegedly chased her through the office, breakroom, and then into the linen room. The report states that at this point, he cornered her and began the assault, kissing her and then kissing her neck as he held her around the chest in a bear hug.
Police said that she screamed loudly until Desai let go of her, then she ran out of the hotel to a neighboring business where she called police.
According to the report, the victim stated that she believes if she had not fought back and gotten away, she would have been raped by Desai.
Police went to the hotel and arrested Desai without incident. He is being held for attempted sexual assault and unlawful restraint on bonds totalling $175,000.
