VFW Post 3278 honored 1SG, Ret Al “Preach” Horton with the Victory in Europe Commemorative Medal for his service to the country on Wednesday, May 9th.
On December 1, 1941 Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. The United States involvement officially lasted 3 years and 5 months. Over 183,000 Services members were killed in Europe, Africa and the Atlantic. Over 672,000 were wounded worldwide with 78,000 still listed as MIA worldwide.
Members of VFW Post 3278 recognized one of those soldiers America called on to fulfill those duties by awarding 1SG, Ret Al “Preach” Horton with the Victory in Europe Commemorative Medal for his service to our country.
1SG Horton’s other awards include Silver Star (the military’s third highest award for valor), Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, European Theater Ribbon with 2 campaign stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. 1SG Horton served in two campaigns in Europe, the Rhineland & Central Europe Campaigns.
