It was homecoming week for the Early Longhorns as they faced Brady.
Tylor Penn was crowned homecoming queen at the game on Friday night.
Taylor is the daughter of Richard and Kathy Penn of Early, TX. Her High School academic accomplishments include 3 years on the “A-B” Honor Roll. Taylor participates in Agricultural FFA, Creed Speaking, Future Career and Community Leaders of America, 4-H, Cheerleading, and the Stampede Spirit Group. She was 1st Runner up of the Brown County Youth Fair Queen Program. In athletics, Taylor has played on the basketball team for 3 years, golf team, track team, and the 2009 softball State Semi-Finalist team. She is a member of Early First Baptist Church. Taylor was escorted in Friday’s pep rally by Curtis Melton. Taylor was escorted in Friday’s game by her father, Richard Penn.
Early also named the Coming Home King as James Reed & Coming Home Queen as Amanda Deeds
Mr. James Paul Reed, also known as Jimmy, is 90 years old and lives in Abilene, but lived in Early for many years. Football at Early High School began in the fall of 1935. He was one of the players on that first team. James recalls the coach’s name was Bodie Hunter, and the team only won one game that year. Most of the boys in high school played football, and the girls made up the pep squad. Purple and gold were chosen as the school colors and the Longhorn as the mascot. Mr. Reed also lettered in basketball one year and was coached by “Pop” Hopkins. Mr. Reed had four sons who graduated from Early and they also played football. Three of his sons were with him at Friday night’s game.
Amanda Deeds has been married to Ross Deeds for 12 years and between the two of them, they have 5 boys and 3 grandchildren. She graduated in 1984, and then attended TSTC in Waco, where she graduated with a degree in Audio Visual Production in 1986. She then moved to San Angelo where she became the News Director for a local TV station for 2 years. Amanda moved back to Early 18 years ago where she was a part of the management team at Wal-Mart for 6 years. For the past 11 years she has worked in the Early School system for the co-op. Their oldest sons are Brian, who lives in McKinney; Johnny, who lives in Colorado; and Sean, who is attending TSU in Stephenville. They are all graduates of Early High School. Thomas who is a senior this year at Early High, plays on the varsity football team. Their youngest son, Mikele, is a 6th grader at Early Middle School. Amanda is very active in the Early Project Graduation program for the senior class. The Deeds are members of Early First Baptist Church. Amanda’s favorite things to do are watch old movies with her husband, watch her boys in all their sports activities, and when she has any spare time…she loves to read Christian Novels. The most important thing s in her life are living for the Lord and loving her family.

2009 Freshman Duchess
Logan Speck is the daughter of Fritz and Kristi Speck of Early, TX. Her Junior High academic accomplishments include Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, and “A” Honor Roll. High School accomplishments include Student Council Freshman Class Vice President and “A” Honor Roll. Logan participates in Jr. FFA Creed Speaking, FFA Jr. Skills Team, Key Club, Belles, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track. She attends Early First Baptist Church. In Friday’s pep rally, she was escorted by Thomas Aly. At Friday night’s game, Logan was escorted by her father, Fritz Speck.
2009 Sophomore Duchess
Kaulyn Reno is the daughter of Wade and Angi Reno of Early, TX. Her Junior High academic accomplishments include National Junior Honor Society, Builders Club Secretary, and Student Council Representative. High School accomplishments include Student Council Homeroom Representative. Kaulin participates in Key club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Future Career and Community Leaders of America, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also a varsity football trainer. She is a member of Early First Baptist church, where she is active as a Vacation Bible School Group Leader, Teacher in Children’s Church, Volunteer in Project Sweat and has been to Brazil on a church mission trip. Kaulyn was escorted by Matthew Lewis at Friday’s pep rally. At Friday’s game, Kaulyn was escorted by her father, Wade Reno.
2009 Junior Duchess
Shandi Winstead Shandi is the daughter of Brad and Marla Winstead of Brownwood, TX. Her Junior High accomplishments include student council. High School accomplishments include Freshman and Sophomore “A-B” Honor Roll and Student Council. Shandi participates in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, cross country, basketball, and track. She was MVP of her Freshman softball area championship team, and a player on last year’s softball state semi-finalist team. Shandi was escorted in Friday’s pep rally by Riley Cason. She was escorted in Friday’s game by her grandfather, Cecil Cox.
2009 Senior Homecoming Queen Nominees
Janna Allen
Janna is the daughter of John and Anna Allen of Early, TX. Her High School accomplishments include UIL Editorial Writing for 4 years, Voted Freshman Class Favorite, Sophomore “Most Friendly”, and Junior Class Homecoming Duchess. Janna participates in Concert Choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (as a member and leader), Students Against Destructive Decisions, and P.A.L.S. She was in Solo and Ensemble at the state level and was in the Shattered Dreams Program. In athletics, Janna has been a basketball manager, JV basketball player, a pitching lessons instructor and a starting player in softball for 3 years. She was District 6-2A Newcomer of the Year her Freshman year, Eastland Tournament MVP, District 6-2A Pitcher of the Year, and Starting Player on the Area Championship softball team her Sophomore year. Her Junior year, Janna was All-State in softball, Most Pitching wins in the State 2-A softball, District 8-2A Pitcher of the Year, an played on the Eula All-Tournament team and on the Early State Semifinalist team. Janna attends St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she is an active member of their youth group and a Vacation Bible School helper. Janna was escorted by Trenton Carouthers in Friday’s pep rally. In Friday’s game, she was escorted by her father, John Allen.
Chelsea Flake
Chelsea is the daughter of Tom and Tracy Flake of Early, TX. Her High School accomplishments include Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class Secretary, member of Student Council, and Freshman Homecoming Court Duchess. Chelsea has participated in Future Career and community Leaders of America, P.A.L.S., Concert Choir for 4 years, Stampeded Spirit Group, UIL, and the musicals “Wizard of Oz” and the upcoming “Sound of Music”. She is a member of the Salvation Army, is employed at Hollywood Theaters and has helped with the local Fall Festival. Chelsea was escorted by Chance Bannister at Friday’s pep rally. Chelsea was escorted in Friday’s game by her father, Tom Flake.
Julia Loudermilk
Julia is the daughter of Michael and Shawn Loudermilk of Early, TX. Her High School academic accomplishments include the National Honor Society, and membership in Student Council. Julia participates in Key Club, P.A.L.S., and Students Against Destructive Decisions. In athletics, Julia has been on the varsity basketball team, has been a starting member of the varsity softball team for 3 years, and a member of the State 2-A Semi-Finalist team.
Julia was escorted by Lance Morris at Friday’s pep rally. Julia was escorted in Friday’s game by her father, Michael Loudermilk.
