Funeral services for Hetty Jenell “Nell” Templeton, age 87, of Brownwood, will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday in the Austin Avenue Church of Christ.  Burial will follow in the Richland Springs Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Ms. Templeton died Sunday at her residence.

Hetty Jenell “Nell” Shirley was born on August 15, 1927 in Skeeterville, San Saba County, Texas to J.C. Shirley and Alma Justice Shirley. She married Royce A. Templeton on September 23, 1946 in Richland Springs. She was a stay at home mom most of their marriage.  After the kids got older she and Royce went in as partners in their subcontracting business which included house painting and interior finish work. 

For years she was a member of the Bangs Church of Christ where she was very involved with church including Sunday school classes, vacation bible school, and the World Bible School.  Later she and Royce transferred their membership to Early Church of Christ.  She, along with her husband, was an avid high school sports fan, cheering on the Richland Springs Coyotes, the Jim Ned Indians and the Bangs Dragons.  She was also a Texas Rangers fan.  She was an accomplished cook and seamstress creating apparel for her children as well as herself throughout the years.

Nell is survived by her children, Sharon Dick and husband Raymond of Bangs, David Templeton and wife Georgann of Cotulla, Janet Griffin and husband Frank of Brownwood, Dale Templeton and wife Jan of San Angelo, Kevin Templeton of Bangs, a stepdaughter Linda Groves and husband Chester of Grapevine; grandchildren, Eric Dick and wife Lisa of Brownwood, Nathan Dick of Tuscola, Laurie Templeton of Denton, Lucie Jenkins and husband Wayne of San Angelo, Malenda MacAdam and husband Bob of Benbrook, Marla Chrane and husband Taj of Early, Janlyn Griffin of Brownwood, Seth Griffin and wife Ashley of Brownwood, 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Shirley and wife Ginger of Lake Brownwood, Clyde Shirley and wife Trish of Marble Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nell was preceded in death by Mother and father J. C. and Alma Justice Shirley, her husband Royce in 2010, three brothers, Winifred, Eugene & Wayne Shirley, a sister, Loraine Elrod, and a grandson, Olan Dick.
