MesquiteSqAptShootingJosh Steed, the man who witnessed the shooting at Mesquite Square Apartments in Abilene yesterday has issued the following statement:

Yesterday around 5 o’clock, John Lee came into the office at Mesquite Square and began shooting at my co-worker and good friend, Jacob Allen. Mr. Lee didn’t shoot at me, but chased after Jacob. Mr. Lee continued shooting at Jacob and God gave me instant courage and strength to do what I needed to in order to disarm Mr. Lee. Once Mr. Lee was disarmed, I ran outside and called the police.

The point I want to make evident in this statement is that even though Mr. Lee came in to cause destruction to Jacob and I, God was there with us. He gave me strength and courage to disarm Mr. Lee, and he is giving Jacob the strength and will to live right now. Continue praying, not only for Jacob, but pray for Mr. Lee who was also hurt.

Most of all pray for Jacob. Pray that there is no serious damage, pray that his family is comforted, and pray for his healing in the short term and in the long term recovery. I believe it is best that all press respect Jacobs’ family’s right for privacy during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Josh Steed
