Funeral services for Helen Reid will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Heartland Funeral Chapel Early, Texas. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Jenkins Springs Cemetery, with Pastor Bill Slaymaker officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Heartland Funeral Home.
Helen was born December 29, 1926 in Brady, Texas to Marvin Perry and Thelma West Knight. She passed away Sunday at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Her early school years were spent at Cherokee, Texas. She graduated from high school in Wichita Falls in 1946. She moved to El Paso, where she met and married Kelly Reid December 1946.
She was an X-Ray technician for twenty-five years. While in El Paso in the early 70’s, she organized the Sun Country Doll Folks Association, which is still active now. She operated a doll hospital in her home, where she cured a lot of sick little babies for a lot of little girls. She and Kelly moved to Brownwood in 1984. She organized the Brownwood Quilters Association.Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 67 years Kelly Reid, her grandsons; Joe Cook and Garrison Telles and wife Tammy of Brownwood, six great-grandchildren; Tori and Krista Cook of Brownwood, Patrick Telles of El Paso, Kelsy and Josh Telles of Houston, Mary Cook of Brownwood. She is also survived by a great-grandchild Mia McCorkle.
Helen is preceded in death by her mother and father, a sister Betty Ruth Johnson, a son Gary, a daughter Lynda, and a grandson Tony Telles.
