Longtime Brown County Fair Association member Helen Chamberlain has been chosen as this year’s rodeo parade grand marshal.
Helen has been a member of the Brown County Fair Association since 1968. She started helping with the rodeo in 1970, selling advertisement for the rodeo program, preparing the program for printing and selling programs at the rodeo. In 1975, she began selling tickets at the rodeo and continued for 20 years. She has continued to work on different committees for the rodeo since that time. Presently, she is helping as a judge for floats in the parade.
Her late husband, Wayne Chamberlain, was a member of the board of directors for 9 years and was president in 1977 and 1978. Her son, Jason, showed livestock in the youth fair from 1977 thru 1987. Jason is married to Debra Roach of Irving, Texas and they have one son, Jake who is interested in showing animals next year in Huffman, Texas.
Helen began helping with youth fair sales by typing and assembling information in 1967 and has worked on most all committees since that date. She was elected to the board of directors and service for 12 years. She was elected as secretary/treasurer in 1983 and served in that position for 7 years. Presently, she has been helping with the sales program for the youth fair sale.
Helen says she enjoys seeing young people being rewarded for their hard work. She takes great pleasure in helping them to learn that being responsible and accountable for their actions has great rewards, not only in their youth fair projects, but in their lives as they become citizens in their communities.
“It is a great opportunity to work with so many hard working and talented people in the Fair Association,” Helen said
Helen is presently employed with USDA, Farm Service Agency where she has worked for more than 40 years and still operates the Limosin Livestock farm. She is a member of the Austin Avenue church of Christ and has served on many community projects.
