A large crew cab pickup truck collided with a four-door passenger car at the intersection of Avenue C and Austin Avenue Tuesday afternoon, sending one man to the hospital with injuries.

Approximately 3:40pm, a two vehicle accident occurred between an extended cab Dodge diesel truck and a Chevrolet Caprice.  The 25-year-old woman driving the pickup was shaken from the wreck but explained that she crossed Austin and did not see the oncoming passenger car.

The impact crushed the front end of the car and completely spun the pickup around 180° as it was struck.  The pickup had minimal damage to the back passenger door and rear quarter panel of the truck.

The 49-year old male driver was pulled from the car by firemen and Guardian EMS and was loaded onto a back board with a neck brace for transport to the hospital.  The initial reports indicated that he had complaints of lower back pain.  The man’s wife, who happened to be traveling down Austin at the time and witnessed the wreck, reported that he had a broken leg and was bleeding.

Both vehicles were reported as not being equipped with airbags.  The driver of the truck suffered only a minor injury to her arm.
