The Brownwood Fire Department is investigating after a man was found dead inside a home on the 2800 block of Belle Plain Saturday afternoon. The victim was found unresponsive around 3 p.m. on Saturday when a Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the residence for a welfare check. The deputy noted the structure showed obvious discoloration and signs of a fire.

It is not known when the fire occurred, and no agencies are reported to have responded to a fire at that address.

According to the Brownwood Fire Marshal a heating unit was determined to be the cause of the fire. The fire later put itself out. It is likely smoke from the fire incapacitated the victim, though further investigation is needed. The body as been sent to a Tarrant County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
