The Heartland Rod Run is one of the best known Brown County events each year, and organizers for the event are getting set for a great weekend of fun.  The Heartland Rod Run will take place Friday, May 31st & June 1st.

Friday kicks off the fun with a Poker Run at Early City Hall, located at 906 Early Blvd.  Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. and cost to enter is $5 per hand with proceeds benefiting Good Samaritan Ministries.  The main event on Saturday features an outdoor car show at Riverside Park which will showcase street rods, muscle cars, sports cars, classics, race cars, imports, trucks, motorcycles and antique tractors.

Local car club the Heartland Cruisers hosts the event each year, and last year’s event saw approximately 350 entries with the same amount expected to participate in the show again this year.  Another highlight of the event will be the popular burnout competition.

Prizes for the car show include $500 Best of Show and four $250 Best of Class awards (Best GM, Best Ford, Best Mopar, and Best Import).  Over 70 trophies will be awarded during the weekends’ events.

New to the show will be the Yamaha trailer featuring their newest model of motorcycle, according to Heartland Cruisers president Tim Buris.  Another new exhibit will be the Mobile Dyno, a semi trailer with fold down sides to allow hot rod owners to pull into the trailer to have their engines tested for horse power and torque.

The event concludes with Cruise Saturday Night from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., where there will be more cash prizes.  Participants are to meet at Sonic, 974 Early Blvd. in Early.

Event sponsors include Brownwood Chamber of Commerce, Early Chamber of Commerce, Bruner Auto Group, Big Country Ford and Stanley Dodge.
