The weather is warming up and more children will soon be out riding their bikes, skating and skateboarding. The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department will be giving away bike helmets during the month of April as part of the Texas Medical Association’s Hard Hats for Little Heads program to help children in the area stay healthy and safe.
Head injury is the most common cause of death and serious disability from bike crashes. A helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 percent. The bike helmet giveaway is made possible by the Texas Medical Association and the TMA Foundation.
The health department would like to invite area parents to bring their children in to update their immunizations and get a free bike helmet.Any child can receive a free helmet and instructions on the correct way to wear the helmet. The helmets are available at the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, 510 E. Lee St. Brownwood. For questions contact BBCHD at 325-646-0554.
