SHaynes2The city of Brownwood confirmed today that Stephen Haynes has filed as candidate for mayor while Draco Miller has filed as a candidate for city councilman Ward 4.

Haynes, an attorney, began his law career in Dallas, where he lived and worked for seven years.  In 2006, he and his family moved back home to Brownwood where he is a partner in the Haynes Law Firm, P.C.  His practice is devoted to all types of civil law with a particular emphasis in civil litigation.  Stephen is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Brown County Bar Association.

When asked why he was running for mayor, Haynes said, “I want to ensure that this community continues to grow and thrive so that it may be enjoyed by our children and grandchildren.  We live in an era of increasing urbanization.  More and more people are moving to the larger metropolitan areas, which makes it difficult for smaller cities like Brownwood to compete for jobs and resources. Obviously, this is a trend that has been occurring for decades and is not likely to change.  However, in such an era, it is incumbent that leadership be proactive and takes the necessary steps to ensure that this city remains a vital and vibrant economic hub for the future.  As Mayor, it will be my objective to be innovative and promote activities that will distinguish Brownwood as a place where people want to live and work.”
