Multiple volunteer fire departments responded to a fire about three miles north of Early off of County Road 381 (Old May Road) where multiple bales of hay caught fire around 6:30pm Wednesday.
Firefighters worked to get the fire contained and moved the ignited bales away from other hay in the area, according to property owner Ted Simpson. The hay was also being moved away from a neighboring property line to prevent it from spreading.
Simpson said that he was told by firefighters that over 100 bales of hay were lost to the blaze, but an exact number could not be determined Wednesday evening. Simpson said that the hay was recently delivered to that location.
Firefighters were expected to be on scene into the night fighting the fire and making sure it does not reignite or spread.
Volunteer fire departments from Early, Bangs, May, Blanket, Lake Bridge, Lake Dam, and Zephyr responded to the fire.
