Harold Dee Roberson, 90, passed away on December 23, 2017. He was the elder son of Lucile and Erie D. Roberson of Goldthwaite, born on the family ranch in western Mills County on December 10, 1927. He attended grade school in Big Valley, graduated from Goldthwaite High school and went on to graduate from Texas A&M University.

He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Texas and the US Bureau of Indian Affairs in Arizona, New Mexico, South Dakota, Montana and Washington D.C.

He was Superintendent of the Ft. Belknap, Northern Cheyenne, and Confederated Salish and Kootenai reservations, an executive in the office of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and retired while acting as Phoenix Area Director of the BIA.

Throughout his government career, Harold longed to return to ranching in central Texas, and did so after retirement. He ran a Hereford cow-calf operation in Mills County until 2007, then a small registered Dexter operation near Blanket until 2014.

Harold was married three times, first to Melba E. Denson, then to Norma F. Helland, and finally to Dorothy A. Simpson. Melba and Norma preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; his brother, Robert Lee Roberson; a daughter and two step-daughters; a son and three step-sons; two grand-daughters and three step-grand-daughters; two grandsons and a step-grandson; three great-grand-daughters and three step-great-grand-daughters; and two step-great-grandsons.

Harold loved the outdoors, hunting, working cattle, riding horseback and dancing to country music. He had many friends. His entire extended family will miss him.

We hope he’s dancing somewhere.
