BraggHaroldHarold Bragg, age 84, of Coleman County, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at his residence.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at the North Main Church of Christ, 502 North Main, in Winters.  Burial will follow in the Glen Cove Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

Harold Bragg was born September 26, 1930 in Runnels County, Texas, a son of Owen Bragg and Hazel Mae Grounds Bragg.  He grew up in the Talpa area and graduated from Talpa High School in 1948 and from Texas A & M University in 1952.  He served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant and received an honorable discharge on May 27, 1954.

Harold was a rancher and sheep farmer all of his life in Coleman County.  On November 4, 1960, he married Helen Caruthers in Coleman and had celebrated 54 years of marriage. 

He was active in many areas, including serving on the Talpa-Centennial School Board and Panther Creek School Board for over 30 years, with 25 years of school board service as president.  He has been an active leader, working with lamb feeding programs and with the 4-H Rifle Club and was named Outstanding 4-H Leader of Coleman County.  Harold is past president of the Coleman County Adult Leaders Association and has served for many years on the Livestock Show Committees for both Talpa-Centennial and Panther Creek.  He has also served as chairman of the Coleman County Sheep Subcommittee.  He helped develop the Coleman County Predator Control Board with the Extension and State Rodent and Predatory Animal Control Service.  In 2003, he was named Rural Citizen of the Year by the Coleman Chamber of Commerce.

Harold also served on the board of Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital for many years and was a member of the Coleman County Appraisal District Board.  He was currently a member of North Main Church of Christ in Winters where he served as an Elder.  He had also served as an Elder at Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Bragg; a son, Michael Harold Bragg and wife LaReshia of Dalhart; a daughter, Joy Christine Layer and husband Steve of Wylie; three grandchildren, Sterling Layer, Chelsea Layer and Jacob Layer; two brothers, Glenn Bragg and wife JoLynn of Hondo and Dr. Larry Bragg and wife Cindy of Stephenville; one sister, Cheryl Bragg Moss of Midland; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
