Building on the idea of the Texas Castle Doctrine (that citizens have a right to be safe and to defend their lives and property) Wayne and Gina Goforth of Brownwood have begun a cottage industry called Castle Keep Services.
They offer 3 classes of handgun training, (1) Basic Handgun 101. Starts with gun safety, how to hold, aim, shoot. Wayne calls this “the toolset.” (2) Advanced Handgun. Wayne refers to this one as “the skillset.” Learning better marksmanship and speed, different shooting stances and at greater distances. (3) Defensive Handgun, or “The Mindset.” How do you defend yourself and family in a home invasion, robbery, or mugging.
Wayne has received training in urban combat as well as dynamic marksmanship. This has been a hobby and passion he has shared with others and now offers it to the public.
Each level is $35 per person/$50 per couple or all three classes for $100. Wayne believes husbands and wives should ideally take these together…even if only one wants to use the handgun, as this will help the other partner know what to do in a supportive role should the need arise.
Wayne and his wife Gina developed this interest after a mugging attempt in Abilene several years ago, then living in a neighborhood which experienced a rash of home invasions. After rendering aid to a man on the street who was stabbed, Wayne decided it was time to learn to better protect his family. The recent Brownwood incident his family experienced with the security “salesman” showed the validity of those concerns.
Wayne is also available for private tutoring sessions on the range and can help you develop your proficiency to be able to pass the shooting skills portion of your Concealed Handgun License (CHL), using the actual targets and scoring that will be used. Wayne is to take his NRA Instructor certification next month in the Refuse To Be A Victim seminars and will be perusing his CHL instructor’s certification as well.
