Trick-or-Treating will take place on Halloween night – Sunday, October 31st according to city officials.  If you are looking for a safe place to take the kids for a little fun, consider some of Brownwood’s  and Early’s Fall Festivals, Haunted Houses and  some of these other community activities.  There will be churches with festivals of games, cake walks and more.  Of course there’s still the old fashion custom to knock on the doors of those people you know and show off your costumes.  Have fun but be careful!

Below is a list of several local activities:

Thursday, October 28th

*The World of Terror Haunted House will be taking place October 28-31 from 8pm-11pm at 527A Commerce Square.  Admission cost will be $8 per person and proceeds will benefit A World for Children.

A Haunted House and Festival church fundraiser will be held from 6pm to midnight from October 28-30 at 1625 Brady Ave.  Tickets are $1 each and $5 for an armband for unlimited use.

Friday, October 29th

*The Brownwood Firefighters Association hosting The Haunted Ole House at the Youth Fair Grounds Home Economics Building at the Brown County Youth Fair grounds again this year.  It will be open October 29-31 from 7pm to midnight.  Adults (13 & up) are $12 and kids 8-12 are $6.

*Zombie Lockdown at the Old Brown County Jail.  The Brownwood Museum of History in association with Alpha Psi Omega is presenting Zombie Lockdown for Halloween. Tours will take place every 15 minutes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday October 29-31 from 7:30pm to midnight.  Zombie’s can be “shot” with toy guns provided.  Tickets are $5 each.  For ages 12 and over.  Cost includes access to all exhibits of the Brown County Museum.

Saturday, October 30th

*Corinne T. Smith Animal Center: Will be holding a Canine Costume Contest.  Dress your dog up to be funny, scary, or just plain cute, and bring him out to share the fun. There will be prizes for the winners and treats for all the dogs. The Center will also be open, so you can see what other adorable dogs and cats we have awaiting adoption.  The grounds of the Corinne T Smith Animal Center at 3016 Milam Drive.  October 30, 2010 from 2pm to 4pm.  $10 per entry, but free to watch.

*Heartland Mall: 6:00 pm Trick or treat at the mall.  Store owners are handing out candy for the kids until it runs out.

*Victory Life Academy (901 CC Woodson) is holding a fall festival on Saturday, October 30th from 9am-4pm.  The festival will include pony rides, music, car show, cake walk, and much more.

*Downtown Brownwood Candy Handout.  Saturday, October 30th 5-8pm.   Downtown participants include Brownwood Fitness, Fancy’s Day Spa, Taylor Clinic, and the Turtle who will be handing out pumpkin gellatos to kiddos in costume

*Coggin Avenue Baptist Church (1815 Coggin Avenue) is holding a fall festival Saturday, October 30th from 5:30pm-7:30pm.

*Hillcrest Baptist Church, at 18th and Ave E, will host “Trunk or Treat” from 5:30pm-7pm Saturday, October 30th at the Church.  Everyone is invited for candy, popcorn, hot dogs, and other treats.

*Blanket Methodist Church will hand out Trick or Treat candy at 6pm at the Family Life Center. Adults in costume are invited.

*The Brownwood Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department will be handing out candy on Sunday,  October 31st from 5:30pm-8pm at the Law Enforcement Center .

The Zephyr Community will have hay rides and treats at Saturday, October 30th at 6:30 pm near the Zephyr Methodist Church.  There will be several hay ride trailers for kids to ride on to travel around town and allow kids to trick-or-treat safely.  There will be hot dogs and sausage wraps for parents and children at several locations.

Sunday, October 31

*The Heart of Texas Cowboy Church, located at Jenkins Spring Road in Early, is having a Truck or Treat for the kids, Sunday from 6-8 p.m., come join us for a safe time.  The church is on the corner of Hwy 377 and Jenkins Spring Road in Early, Tx.

*First United Methodist Church “Trunk or Treat”. October 31st from 5 pm until 7 pm. Church parking lot across from Brownwood High School.

*First Christian Church @ 2411 Coggin Ave. in Brownwood, TX will have a Trunk and Treat Sunday, October 31st from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the front parking lot of church. Children are encouraged to come by for treats and trinkets. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the church’s Fellowship Hall.

*Brownwood Manor (300 Center Avenue) will also be giving out candy to trick-or-treaters Halloween night.

*Austin Avenue Church of Christ (1020 Austin Avenue) and will be holding “Trunk or Treat” events that night as well from 5pm-7pm.

*Early First Baptist Church (103 Garmon Drive) is holding their fall festival Sunday, October 31st from 5pm-7pm.

*Southside Church (1219 Indian Creek) will hold their “Trunk-N-Treat” event Sunday, October 31 from 7pm-8:30pm.
