As Judge of the Brown County Court at Law, Judge Griffin handles a wide range of cases.  The Court shares jurisdiction with the District Court within Constitutional limits and also shares jurisdiction with the County Court.  Under local rules agreed to by Judge Ellis, the District Judge, Judge West, the County Judge, and Judge Griffin, the Court at Law hears all family law cases filed in Brown County, hears condemnation cases, assists in felony cases, and has primary responsibility for all misdemeanor criminal cases except theft by check.

Judge Griffin has worked with local law enforcement agencies to make Brown County a “No Refusal” county for persons arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.  For the last several years he has made himself available at any hour of the day or night to review applications for search warrants for blood draws in DWI cases.

Judge Griffin graduated from Brownwood High School in 1972, from Howard Payne University in 1976, and from Baylor Law School in 1978.   He was licensed to practice law in the State of Texas in 1979.  He served as County Attorney of Brown County from 1981 to 1985.  He was employed by the 35th District Attorney as First Assistant District Attorney from 1989 to 1994, and, in addition, was in the private practice of law for 15 years.  He was elected as Judge of the Court at Law in 2002, and began serving as the Judge of the Court at Law in 2003.

Judge Griffin served 12 years in the United States Army Reserve and Texas National Guard.  He is a graduate of the College of the Judiciary, an educational program designed to promote excellence in the Texas Judiciary.

He recently received recognition for 50 years as a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America, and currently serves as the Council Commissioner for the Texas Trails Council.  Both he and his wife Janet hold the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor given by a local Boy Scout Council.  Frank and Janet Griffin have been married for 31 years, and have raised four children.  They have five grandchildren.

“I look forward to continuing to serve as the Judge of the Brown County Court at Law.  I consider it a privilege to serve the people of Brown County, and I appreciate the trust they have placed in me since 2003.”  “My continued goal will be to make sure that the people of Brown County have access to a responsive and considerate court system.”  “ I try to preside over a court that is respectful to everyone, both attorneys, litigants, and defendants, while, at the same time, making sure that the law is upheld.”
