playgroundribboncuttingThe Austin Avenue Church of Christ recently held a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for their new Playground and Patio.  These facilities represent an important component of the organization’s expansion of youth programs and activities.

In 2008, the leadership of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ identified the need for a Director of Children’s Ministry and hired Julie Moore for the position.  About one year ago, the elders of the church approved the construction of a playground and patio area to serve the needs of members of all ages.  Moore assisted or coordinated nine fundraising activities for a total of more than $20,000.

Before cutting the ribbon, while surrounded by children, Moore thanked those who helped make the project possible, stating, “The generosity of our members has been overwhelming.”  She added, “You have shown support of our kids with your time, your money and your encouragement.”  She continued with a special acknowledgement of the Bill Jetton family by noting that the patio area has been named in his memory.

In recent years, Austin Avenue Church of Christ has seen an increase in the participation of youth in many programs such as thirty-three children participating in Leadership Training for Christ in April.  This summer, two youth will travel to Africa to preach the Gospel and minister to those in need and several high school students will work in San Francisco in similar ways.

Moore concluded, “As children are a priority to Jesus, so they are to us at Austin Avenue.”  The church meets at 1020 S. Austin Avenue in Brownwood.  For more information, contact the church office at 325.646.0855 or see their website: www.austinavenue.org.
