District Attorney Micheal Murray reports that during the June 2011 session of the Brown County Grand Jury, Thirty-Six (36) Indictments were returned against Thirty-Four (34) persons.

Angela Jean Reno, owner of Paragon Insurance in Early, was indicted for theft greater than $1500 less than $20,000.   According to court records, Reno allegedly took premiums for insurance policies and did not provide those policies.

The original investigation began in February 2010 when officials at TexasBank in Brownwood contacted the Brown County Sheriff’s Office to express some concerns with several insurance policies that were being carried on several notes at their bank, according to the affidavit issued for the search warrant.  The search warrant was executed on February 26, 2010 and signed by County Judge Ray West.

According to the indictment, the premiums for five named policies were “obtained pursuant to one scheme or continuing course of conduct.”  Premiums paid, according to documents, totaled $2636.00 and involved five separate policyholders in 2009 and 2010 who each had property financed through TexasBank.

Agencies involved in the investigation have included the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Rangers.

Reno turned herself at the Mills County Jail Thursday evening and was released on $5000 bond within hours of her arrest, according to Mills County Jail officials.
