Summer in Texas is hot. It’s Texas. It’s supposed to be.
Most people can cool themselves off in a lake, pool or relax in the comfort of their well-air conditioned home.
However, for those in the community without the means to adequately cool themselves, the summer heat takes on a whole new meaning – especially the elderly.
Currently Good Samaritan Ministries has a limited number of box fans available for those 55 and older with a need.
“We know that most of our elderly are living on a fixed income and having to run the air conditioning constantly can be a financial hazard,” said Angelia Bostick, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Ministries.
In order to qualify, a person must be 55 years old or older and must be the full-time resident at the address on a bill shown as proof of address. The client must have an income less than or equal to 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
Recipients of fans must be a resident of Brown County and may only receive fans once per calendar year.
If you meet the above qualifications and are in need of a fan, call GSM at 325-643-2273 to set up an appointment. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m.
