Big Country Ford and House of Wheels held their Yamaha Grizzly 300 4-Wheeler raffle on Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum during Big Country Ford’s Drive4UrSchool event. 100% of the proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Good Samaritan Ministries’ Deer Project.
The winning ticket was bought by the Brown County chapter of Buckmasters American Deer Foundation. Buckmasters representative Connie Hart of Bangs was present and quite excited that the Brown County chapter had won the 4-wheeler.Hart explained that Buckmasters has supported The Deer Project since its beginnings almost 8 years ago. Each year they have given a large donation to project, according to Hart. For the past 4 years though, the chapter decided to make its donations with the purchase of $1500 in raffle tickets. While supporting a very good cause; if they won, Buckmasters could use the ATV to raise funds for their own association as well.
“This is awesome,” said Hart. “This will help us to do more hunts.” She explained that the Buckmasters provide special hunts for disabled youths, terminally ill children and disabled veterans.
“The deer project is one of our main projects,” said Hart. “It’s amazing how much it (The Deer Project) helps the community.”
The Deer Project, in its seventh year, is a program that successfully partners hunters, processors and donors in order to provide a lean source of protein to Brown County residents at risk of hunger.
All a hunter has to do is take a legally tagged, field-dressed deer to one of the participating processors and tell them to donate it to the Deer Project. The processor then grinds the meat into two-pound chub packs that go into the freezers of the GSM food pantry. The money raised from this raffle will help pay to process the venison.
