Members of the Girl Scouts of Central Texas delivered about 1000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to members of the 21st Cavalry Brigade on Wednesday at Brownwood Regional Airport.   The cookies were purchased and donated by area residents during the Girl Scout cookie season to be sent to military serving overseas.

Brigade Commander Col. Morgan Lamb and Sgt. Major Woods along with other members of the 21st Cav arrived at the airport in a Huey helicopter to receive the cookies which will ultimately be delivered to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Col. Lamb told the Girl Scouts present that these cookies will mean a lot to the soldiers in the field as it gives them a taste of home.  Lamb also expressed his appreciation to the community for coming together to do something for the military.

“I have never been in a place where the community is so behind the military other than here,” Lamb said.  (See Col. Lamb’s full comments in the video below)

Col. Lamb presented each of the girls with the “Commander’s Coin of Excellence” to show is appreciation for “a job well done.”

The Girl Scouts helped load the cookies into the Huey with the help of the soldiers present.  The donation of cookies was so great, that a few cases had to be left behind due to space limitations of the helicopter.

Col. Lamb was also presented with a Brownwood “Mafia” certificate by Brad Locker to show the community’s appreciation for the work that Lamb and the 21st Cavalry do for the area.
