The money donated will go towards the care of the rescued dogs and also into their building fund.

Toni Burleson, one of the founders of Nanook and Nakoda’s Big Paws Rescue, explained that the NNBPR was formed because of their love for animals, which compelled them to start a sanctuary to shelter predominately large breeds and difficult dogs.
“We believe every animal has a right to a safe life filled with love. Our goal is to shelter pets in a cage-free, home-like sanctuary. We will only cage animals for their safety while being acclimated to their new environment or for medical needs.” Burleson stated.
Currently, NNBPR is completely funded out of their own pocket and through public donations. They have completed the process of becoming a 501c3 and hope to acquire funding through future grants.
“We often rescue animals needing special medical attention for injuries and/or illnesses. At our no-kill rescue we care for dozens of rescues whose age, medical condition, temperament, or other special needs make them extremely difficult to re-home. Like us, these furry folks need nourishing food, safe shelter, and regular medical care. Your donations help provide spaying/neutering, vaccinations, veterinary care and love.”
Burleson goes on to say “The donations we receive go to help cover the cost of food, vet bills, indoor shelter and shade cover for outside time, treats, enrichment toys, training, cleaning supplies, laundry, sheets/blankets, towels, bedding, flea/tick medicine, heartworm medicine/treatments, crates/kennels and more.”
“Our ultimate goal is to be a sanctuary where we can shelter larger numbers of animals until they are adopted or for the remainder of their lives.” Burleson explained.
Sarah Bowman and Rowonna McNeely are the leaders of the 16 girls in Troop 4031. “We had a great cookie season,” Bowman said. “Some of the money earned through cookie sales is used to donate to organizations throughout the community and to be a help in some way.”
The Troop has plans to donate to other organizations in the area as well.
“We have a great Troop,” Bowman said. “These girls worked super hard selling cookies every weekend as a troop, and on their own during the week. I am so glad we were able to raise enough money to be able to help NaNook and NaKoda’s out.”
NaNook and NaKoda’s Big Paws Rescue is always accepting donations to help in the care of their rescues. Those interested in donating can contact the NNBPR at 325-261-3849 or visit them at nanooknakodasbigpawrescue.org, or on Facebook @NaNookNaKodasBigPawsRescue.
