For the past several weeks, there have been many activities happening at Heartland Mall. Turn out was great for each event.
Members of troop 4047 have been selling their cookies at the mall for 5 Saturdays straight. Now that is some dedication! They had signs that read: “A year is a long time to wait, put some in the freezer”, “You can only get yummy cookies one time a year! Stock up before it is too late!” and “Girl Scout Cookies, straight out of the freezer on a HOT Summer afternoon…”
The Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby which was held Saturday morning. There was a great turn out! Over 70 boys from the area participated.
According to the Boy Scouts of America, each year more than a million Cub Scouts & adult partners 
team up to participate in a Pinewood Derby®, a tradition that goes back generations. As a coach & a Cub Scout design, carve, paint, weigh, refine, and race the car, a bond of partnership is created. In addition, Cub Scouts build confidence & take pride in their own growing skills & hard work. The rules of the very first race stated: “The Derby is run in heats—2 to 4 cars starting by gravity from a standstill on a track & run down a ramp to a finish line unaided. The track is an inclined ramp with wood strips down the center to guide the cars.” The cars still roll that way today.
The Coin Show was also a huge success. The public brought coins from home for grading and/or appraisal. They were able to view some rare and unique coins. Anyone could buy, sell, or trade coins at the event. There were also door prizes given out all day.
