Gertrude “Tudie” Fry Petty, age 88, of Cisco, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 in Cisco. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Methodist Church in Zephyr, TX.
Gertrude was born on August 24, 1922 in Grosvenor, TX to M. E. and Lena (Miller) Fry. She married John Edwin Petty on July 18, 1941, in Brown County, TX; the youngest of a large family. Gertrude was a homemaker, taking care of her family. She also worked as a postal clerk for some time with the U.S. Postal Service. She and John were involved in raising Polled Hereford cattle for many years. Gertrude was an active member of the Methodist Church. She was also involved in various organizations such as the Putnam Women’s Study Club, Zephyr Home Demonstration Club, and the Pollettes.
Gertrude loved life and all of the wonderful people whom she met along the way. She was always involved in her children’s activities through the years, as well as various civic activities. Gertrude enjoyed different types of art; including painting china. After returning to the Brown County area, Gertrude and John reconnect with their old high school classmates and enjoyed many get-togethers with them. Gertrude was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to a charity of your choice in her memory.
Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; John Edwin Petty, 2 brothers and their wives, and 1 sister and her husband.
Survivors include her 3 children; Roy “Butch” Petty and wife Beth of Putnam, TX, Sharron Toland and husband Jerry of Breckenridge, TX, and Jan Bingham and husband Jerry of Blanket, TX, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.
