A graveside funeral service with military honors for Gerald Michael Luckey, Sr., age 76, of Brownwood, formerly of Bangs and Piedmont, Alabama, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Eastlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.
Gerald’s family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the home of Mona and Charles Pitts, 3060 County Road 315, Early.
Mr. Luckey passed from this life on Friday, July 5, 2019 after a lengthy illness.
Gerald Michael Luckey was born in Miami, Florida on December 11, 1942. Mickey to his family and Jerry to his many friends attended school in Naples, Florida. Jerry was an accomplished trumpet player having also attended the Nashville School of Music, sitting first chair in several bands.
Jerry married Linda Waldron in 1962 and the couple was blessed with their wonderful daughter Lisa.
Jerry enlisted and served in the Air Force & Air Reserve as a member of the Strategic Air Command Aerospace Program from 1962 – 1968. In addition to service for our country, Jerry gained valuable knowledge and skills he would later use in his professional career as head of Data Processing for First National Bank in Ft. Myers, Florida. Jerry brought the company into the computer age in working with a 1969 Burroughs 300 Computer that he described as having an infallible memory but no ability to think for itself. Over 90% of the bookkeeping in addition to contract billing for the bank was under his command.
During his tenure at First National Bank, Jerry fell in love with Marty K. The couple were great dance partners; taking lessons, moving it to the next level, attending balls, galas and other events throughout their relationship. Marty K, her Daughter Mona joined Jerry and his daughter Lisa into their loving and blended family. Their son together, Michael was born in May 1971
In addition to being an avid softball player, Jerry was a lifetime outdoorsman in the literal sense; throughout his life actively hunting, fishing and camping. Along with Marty K., the girls and young Michael, he and the family built lasting memories through their many outdoor adventures from the inter-coastal waterways and Everglades down to the keys.
Leaving the fast lane and high life of Florida, Jerry and family followed his father in moving to Texas, getting back to a lifestyle he was comfortable with as a young man in the construction industry. Eventually owning his own company, with projects ranging from homes to office buildings, still landmarks in the area today.
Marty K, passed in August 1982, mourning her death and re-evaluating life, Jerry retired comfortably; later moving to Alabama in the late 90’s to join his siblings in caring and loving for their aging parents until their passing.
Jerry was a religious and spiritual man of faith his entire life and is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Winifred Luckey. His sisters Linda Sadler and Norma Smith. His beloved son Michael Luckey.
He is survived by daughters Mona Pitts of Brownwood, her husband Charles, their son J.C. and his wife Taylor; Lisa Luckey of Citra Florida; her children Byron Luckey, Alexis James, Keesha Gillespie. His son Michael’s wife Jeanni Luckey of Brownwood and their daughters Nicole Hamlett and husband Will of Pflugerville; Morgan Davis and husband Jeff of Brownwood. Brother Franklin and his wife Rhonda of Stark, Florida; Brother Larry wife Neva of La Belle, Florida in addition to many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins within his family.
