Jerry was born to Herbert and Juanita (Berry) Roberts on November 11, 1937, in Oklahoma City, OK. He graduated in 1955 from Classen High School in Oklahoma City. After high school, he attended Oklahoma State University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Jerry married the love of his life, Shirley Walker Roberts, on January 30,1959 in Oklahoma City, OK. They shared 59 wonderful years of life together.
Jerry has always had a strong work ethic, passing the importance of that to his two sons. During the late 1950’s, Jerry delivered milk for Gilt Edge Farms in Oklahoma City. Soon after that in the early 60’s, he operated a Sonic Drive-In in Altus, OK. From there became a Sales Manager for Republic Gypsum, Housing & Building Products from the mid 60’s to early 70’s. In the mid 70’s, he owned Roberts Construction, building homes in Plano, TX. After that, he was the General Manager for Freeway Ready Mix in Dallas, TX. In the early 80’s, he was the General Manager for Plano Ready Mix in Plano, moving to Vice President and General Manager for Redi-Mix, INC. in Dallas. His final stop was what brought him to Brownwood, as the President of Ingram Enterprises from 1988-2006. The positive impact he made at Ingram is still being felt by the numerous past and current employees that worked with him there, including his sons.
Jerry had many talents, hobbies and interest. In his early twenties, he played catcher for a semi-pro baseball team in the Oklahoma City Industrial Leagues. He was an avid golfer throughout his life initially with his mother, father and brother, then later with his sons, friends and business colleagues. He hunted and fished when he could and especially loved quail hunting and his bird dogs. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time in the pasture on his tractor and tending to his livestock.
Jerry leaves behind his wife, Shirley Roberts of Brownwood; 2 sons, Randy Roberts of Brownwood, Jeff Roberts and wife Diane of Brownwood; 1 grandson, Nick Powell and wife Ella of Denton; 2 granddaughters, Sydney and Jordan Roberts both of Brownwood; 1 great-grandson, Will Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Juanita Roberts; and brother, Herb Roberts.
