George Wesley Hammond of Goldthwaite, Texas passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013. He was 65 years old.
George was born January 30, 1948 in Goldthwaite, Texas to Clifford Neal Hammond and Anna Beth Davis Hammond. He married Artie Johnson on July 27, 1971 in Burnet, Texas. George served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Medic at Camp Drake in Japan where the wounded from Vietnam were flown for care. When he returned home from the service in 1970 he began driving a truck again and continued until he retired because of heath issues in 2005.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 2 PM at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, Bobby Machen officiated.
Honorary Pallbearers: Hugh Taylor, James Stewart, Jason McMahan, Robin McGlothlin, Steve Grayson, Zane Weyerts, Gene Curtis and Billy Joe Dellis.
Survivors include his wife, Artie Hammond of Goldthwaite, Texas, son James and wife Sheri Hammond of Lake Port, MI. Three sisters, Tony Andres of Houston, Patsy and husband Jack McMahan of Midland, Polly Womack of Goldthwaite; sisters-in-law Kay Hammonds of Comanche, Kassie Ann and husband Lloyd Singleton of Lampasas, Anita Boyd of Early, Darlene and husband Don Smith of Blanket. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Anna Beth Hammond and brother Mike Hammond.
