Written by Ben Cox – A local charity was the recipient of the famous Brownwood generosity this week after a mishap left their vehicle in need of costly repairs.

The Corrine T Smith Animal Center was transporting two loads of animals Mothers Day Weekend to other town rescues for adoption. During the return trip from a run to Liberty Hill the front right side tire blew out, leaving the driver stranded.

“He tried to change the tire and the jack just buckled on him” Director Carren Bowden said. Bowden and her husband retrieved the vehicle that evening, and noticed several issues under the vehicle that concerned them.

The couple dropped it off at local repair shop Trans Texas Tire to see what kind of damage had been done. It was determined that there was not one, but two tires in need of replacing, and “the drive shaft, tie rods, and several other parts had been damaged as well” Bowden said.

This left the van in need of costly repairs that the Center could not pay for. While going over the list of repairs needed, Bowden said “My eyes kept getting more and more huge, because we can’t afford a big bill for a repair like that. But I said for them to go ahead and we’ll figure it out.”

After a Facebook plea by the Center, a local man “donated $75 towards the tire replacement” according to Bowden. However, it was not enough to return the van to operating status.

When Bowden went to see what the final balance would come to, she was told that “two businessmen stepped in to cover everything but the tires.” Their names weren’t given, and no thanks was asked for.

Their donation, along with the generosity of the other individual left the Center owing less than $130 for the entire repair.

Bowden wishes to thank the people who stepped in during the Center’s hour of need.
