The Brownwood Library Genealogy Branch, located at 213 S. Broadway, will begin extended hours starting February 21, 2015. The library will have additional hours from 9:00 a.m. ? 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Being open an additional day, the library will be available to persons unable to visit during the week days and those coming to Brownwood from outside of the area.
In March, the library will offer Beginning and Intermediate Family Tree Research Classes, sponsored by the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society. The society’s goal is to assist those who wish to discover their family history by developing a family tree. Classes will be announced in advance and the class size will be limited to 14 people for each class. There will be a series of 3 classes on consecutive Saturdays for each level (beginner and intermediate).
Classes on scanning and improving photos and documents will also be offered in following weeks. The library’s staff archivist will be available as well as the staff librarian on these Saturdays to assist patrons.Those wishing to participate in the classes are required to have a Brownwood Public Library card, sign up at the Genealogy Library in person and have a positive attitude regarding the discovery of the participant’s family history. Classes will be free of charge. The instructor for the series of classes will is Clay Riley, Genealogist and Local Historian.
