Funeral services for Codie Eugene “Gene” Smith, 72, of Brownwood will be at 10am Saturday February 23, 2013 at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday February 22, 2013 from 6-8pm at Heartland Funeral Home.
Gene died Tuesday Feb. 19, 2013 at his home in Brownwood.
He was born September 10, 1940 and was the only child of Johnnye Brannan and Codie Erwin Smith of Brownwood. Gene was born and raised in Brownwood, TX and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1958. He married Susie Stewart in 1968 and went on to work and raise his family here. Gene retired in September 2012 from Janie Clements Industries with 20 years of service. He is survived by daughter Shae Smith of Corpus Christi, TX and son and daughter-in-law Codie and Angie Smith of Brownwood along with 4 grandchildren Codie and Connor Smith of Corpus Christi and Cate and Evan Smith of Brownwood, and a cousin Billie Johnson of Abilene, TX
He is preceded in death by his parents Johnnye Brannan and Codie Erwin Smith.
Gene will be remembered for his kindness, humor, wit, and wisdom as well as being a good father, grandfather, and friend.
