A celebration of the Life & Times of Gene “Mavrik” Garner, age 64, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Netherton Funeral Home, 1412 Belle Plain, Brownwood, Texas. He passed away June 9, 2010 at his home.
Mavrik came into this world as Wilburn Eugene Garner, Jr. on December 18, 1945 in Santa Anna, Texas, the son of the late Wilburn Eugene “Sleepy” Sr. and Arliss (Crutcher) Garner. He attended school in Rochelle, then later graduated from Brady High School in 1964. Immediately upon graduation, Mavrik enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served during the Viet Nam War. He was very proud to have served his country and was a member of the Oklahoma City VFW. Mavrik was a man of many talents; but his passion was making kaleidoscopes.
Survivors include his children: Lewaine and Jason Heath of Greenville and Dorothy Lyle of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren: Ryan and Emily Hudler, Cheyenne Lyle, Aaron Soderman, Brandon Songer and Sarah Songer; great grandchildren: Andon and Kolden Hudler; brother: Randy Garner of Brownwood; sisters: Diane Booth and Barbie Young, both of Brownwood; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother of his daughters, Cherie Garner.
