Graveside services for Gayle Wayne Irwin, age 83, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 1:00 PM Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Winchell Cemetery with Brian Hall officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday at the Heartland Funeral Home. Mr. Irwin passed away Friday in Brownwood.
Gale was born May 7, 1935 to Ola A. and Effie (Barnett) Irwin in Downers Grove Du Page, Illinois. He married the love of his life, Emma Louise Wilks on November 19, 1958 in Abilene, Texas. Gale spent six years in the United States Air Force, stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. He served 11 months in Germany and France before receiving an Honorable Discharge. He worked for Safeway and JRB Grocery for many years as a Produce Manager. He worked in Maintenance for an apartment complex before retiring. He loved photography and collecting as well as cooking and building things.
He is survived by one brother Richard Irwin of Blue Mound, Texas; one sister-in-law Leta Wilks Petzold of Brownwood; two sons Robert Wayne Irwin and wife Becky of Abilene, Texas, William Allen Irwin and wife Sandra of Brownwood, one daughter Mary Elizabeth Caudill and husband Jackie of Early, Texas. He is known as “PAPA” to his grandchildren Jonathan Jay Irwin and wife Mary of Peco, Texas, Ronnie Dale Caudill and wife Kim of Early, Crissy Nicole Lundy and fiancé Jason of Copperas Cove, Texas, Danna Shock and wife Natalie of Ft Wayne, Indiana and Megan Yeats and husband Ethan of Munday, Texas. Seven great grandchildren Isaac Tyler Irwin, Allanna Richelle Irwin, Isabella Marie Irwin, Roland Jake Lundy, Pennylane Rocket Lundy, Oliver Coy Caudill and Amelia Louise Caudill. Lots of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, Ola and Effie, his wife Emma Louise, his sister Doris Meyer and husband Mel; his brothers Lyle Irwin and George Irwin; his sister-in-law Joyce Irwin.
