John Garland Lindly was met with open arms by his Creator on Sunday, June 24, after a battle with cancer. He was born to John and Claudia Lindly on May 7, 1929, in Coleman County. He graduated from Mozelle High School in 1947, and married Elda Fay (Winslett) in 1949.
He retired from Superior Cable in 1991. He was a long-time member of Early First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elda Fay; two daughters, Cynthia and her husband Dr. Dan Locker; Renea and her husband Gary Skaggs of Brownwood; and one son, Jeffery Lindly and his wife Tracy of Mansfield. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Lindly, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He loved his family and being outdoors. Some of the hobbies he enjoyed included hunting, fishing, golfing, beekeeping, and watching the Texas Rangers play ball. He enjoyed a good hand of 88 and usually caused opponents to quake in fear. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Bryan Skaggs, two brothers Homer and Joe Lindly, and a sister, Loyce Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at Early First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
