Organizers for Brown County’s National Night Out announced that 10-year-old Gabriel Martinez of Early is the winner of the “Design a Sign” contest.  Gabriel received a prize bag provided by Heartland Mall merchants and $100 cash.

His artwork showing a fire truck will be featured on this year’s National Night Out promotional signs.

The sign contest winner was announced at this year’s National Night Out kickoff event that was held Tuesday at Coggin Park.  Twenty entries were submitted to the contest by Brown County students, and all contest entries will be displayed at Heartland Mall until October 1st.

Brown County’s National Night Out will be held this year on Tuesday, October 1st in neighborhoods across the county.  Residents can register their neighborhoods to host a block party by calling Chandra Means of the Brownwood Police Department at 325-646-2525 or at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce at 325-646-9535.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This is the 30th anniversary of National Night Out nationwide and the 4th year for Brown County participation.

This year’s National Night Out is sponsored locally by Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers, WT Harris Company, Guardian EMS, Wal-Mart, 3M Company, ATMOS Energy, Heart of Texas EMS, Oncor, TexasBank, and Weldon Wilson Electric.
