Zayvion Khi Curtis, a 2nd grader at East Elementary, was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. 7-year-old old Khi is the son of Angelina and Wilford Curtis, Jr.
Khi is currently at Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth where he will spend at least 10 more days before being moved to the Ronald McDonald House for an additional 30 days.
Two fundraisers have been set up to benefit Khi and his family. Family and friends have organized “Team Khi” and are selling t-shirts and hosting a brisket fundraiser.The t-shirts will be orange in color with white lettering that reads “I am strong, this will NOT DEFEAT ME. Team Khi. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13.” The cost of the shirts are $10 each and all funds benefit the Curtis family to help with expenses related to travel and treatment for Khi. The first round of t-shirt orders are due today Friday, January 8th. Orders may be turned in to East Elementary.
A brisket fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 9th in the Firestone parking lot in Brownwood this Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. or until sold out. Plates of brisket, beans, potato salad, onions, pickles, dessert and tea will be offered for $9 each.
