Veterans from all eras that are buried at Greenleaf Cemetery were honored this Memorial Day weekend for the second year by Friends and Relatives of Greenleaf (FROG). 12x18inch American Flags were placed on each of the veteran’s grave.
Last year, FROG initially purchased 500 flags and asked that anyone who would like to specifically request a flag placement make contact. The response last year was overwhelming–both personal requests and monetary donations. FROG was able to purchase additional flags, and the 95 acre cemetery was definitely a memorial site to see, as it is again this Memorial Day weekend. By recycling the flags and adding more this year, the tribute to veterans is even better than before.
Volunteers are still in the process of compiling an updated list of veterans at Greenleaf. Last year, approximately 1,050 flags were placed, the grave sites photographed, and the names documented. While the complete listing is a “work in progress”, FROG should have this project completed this summer.
It is FROG’s goal to honor each and every veteran at Greenleaf by placing a flag at every veteran grave site.
