Central Texas Opportunities offers free last minute tax help at Texas State Technical College on Monday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 15, from 1:00-4:30 p.m.
The service is courtesy of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) which provides free basic income tax return preparation for qualified individuals in local communities. IRS-certified volunteers can inform tax payers about tax credits for which they may qualify, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly.
“We’ll generally help anyone whose income is less than $53,000 or less to prepare their federal and state income tax returns and provide free electronic filing,” said volunteer James Prosise.Taxpayers seeking assistance must have photo identification and social security cards (or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers), for themselves, their spouses and dependents. Taxpayers should also bring wage and earnings statements (Forms W-2), interest and dividend statements (Forms 1099), a copy of last year’s return, and any other information concerning their income and expenses for 2014. For joint e-filed returns, both spouses must be present to sign the required tax forms.
