Fredna Slayton Horton, age 87, of Santa Anna, left this life for a new life, on Thursday, September 5, 2019.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, at the First Baptist Church in Santa Anna, with her nephew, Rev. Randy Casey, officiating. Her grandson, Jason Dean, will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Fredna Slayton on July 4, 1932, in Coleman County, Texas, the third of eight children born to G. J. Slayton and Gladys Keeney Slayton. She grew up in Coleman County where she attended school at Crossroads, Buffalo, Santa Anna and Coleman. On her 18th birthday, she married Rondoe Horton in Coleman and they enjoyed 60 years together, until his death on June 27, 2011. Fredna was a Reflexologist for many years and helped a lot of people with various kinds of chronic pain. Anyone who knew Fredna knew that she loved to dance and she and Larry Tillman attended their last dance on Labor Day at Lake Brownwood.

She enjoyed sewing and worked for a number of years at Jinright Sewing Factory in Coleman. She was also an artist, painting in both pastels and oils. For many years she was an avid fisherman. One of the highlights of her life was catching a 40 pound yellow cat on her 25th anniversary. Since she was born as well as married on the 4th of July, she loved to dress in red, white and blue. Fredna believed that Jesus Christ was the son of God and died for her and any others that believe in Him. She was a member of the Baptist church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Roddy Dean of Santa Anna; her special friend, Larry Tillman of Coleman; eight grandchildren, Jason Dean and wife Bethany of Georgetown, Julie Easley and husband Clint of Llano, Mayra Borel and husband Chuck of Nacogdoches, Bianca Ruth and husband Michael of Santa Anna, Jonathan Dean and Frediena Emerson of Santa Anna, Adelaida Contrerasand husband Ysidro of San Marcos, Joanie Dean of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jordan Dean of Coleman; 12 great-grandchildren, Tatum, Remington, Emma, Tennison, Ana-Ysobel, Kaydee, Layla, Isaac, Georgia, Kelala, Alejandro, Henri; four sisters, Louise Strength of Coleman, Frances Smith of Lohn, Sandra Wilson of Coleman and Delores Fenton of Johnson City; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents G. J. and Gladys Slayton, two brothers, Kemp Slayton and G. W. Slayton; one sister, Irene Matthews.
