Funeral services for Freddie Lee Rainey, age 62, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2019 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Slaymaker officiating and Benny Scott speaking on behalf of the family.  Burial with military honors will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Mr. Rainey died Sunday, October 13, 2019 in an Abilene hospital.

Freddie Lee Rainey was born on August 9, 1957 in Winters to Joyce (Motley) and Simmie Barnes.  He attended Brownwood schools and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1975.  Freddie married Rhoda McNew DeVoss on August 11, 1997 in San Antonio.  He was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church.

Freddie loved his Crown and Sprite, his pool, his animals and his wife, which was his everything.  He loved his family, but also loved to see them go home.  Freddie had big dreams to travel and spoil his wife.  He loved his music on the porch and to watch everybody go by.  He loved his job at Kohler and the people he worked with.  Freddie referred to them as his Kohler family.  He always enjoyed football season so he could watch his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Freddie is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rhonda Rainey of Brownwood; two daughters, Larale McNew and Jackie McNew, both of Brownwood; two sons, Anthony Rainey and wife Kim of May and Benjamin Rainey of Florida; six grandchildren, Kendale Jeffery, Keionna Terry, Julius McNew, Kyleigh Randle, Deandre Goodman and Jazmyn Rainey; three great-grandchildren, Changuz Doss, Anylaa Terry and Ja’Mari Terry; a brother, Tony Johnson and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Freddie Lee Rainey, Jr.; his parents, Joyce and Simmie Barnes; his sister, Joyceannette Austin and his grandmother, Lilly Maye Johnson and his grandfather, Diamond Allen.

The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Corrine T. Smith Animal Center.
